The Team Georgia Junior baseball team earned a split on the first day of play in the Sunbelt Classic in Oklahoma.

They hammered Canada 12-1 in five innings in the opener on Friday, then Team Georgia dropped a 10-1 decision late Friday night.

In the victory over Canada, the team scored three runs each in the first and second innings to grab a commanding 6-0 lead and never looked back.

Pitcher Andew Moore (Jackson) allowed just a run on three hits, struck out one and walked two to earn the victory.

Garrett Marchman (Greenbrier) smacked a two-run homer in the second inning to make it 6-0 and finished 2 for 2 with three RBIs to lead the offense. Chaz Bertolani (Johns Creek) finished 2 for 3. Slayton Marina (West Laurens) also added a two-run homer.

Brennan Crooms (Metter) finished 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, while Jamie Boatright (Hillgrove) finished 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Chase Patrick (Schley County) finished 1 for 2 with a double.

However, Team Georgia couldn't keep its momentum going in the second game as Tennessee scored a 10-1 victory.

They managed just six hits off Tennessee standout Mason Wilcox. Austin Thompson (South Effingham) went 2 for 2 to lead the offense and scored the team's only run.

Crooms, Marchman, Taber Mongero (North Hall) and Christian Avant (Tift County) finished with singles.

The team will play Mississippi at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 4:30 p.m. game against Missouri on Saturday.
