Saint-Anne Pacelli has hired a familiar name to lead its baseball program. The Class 1A Private school in Columbus announced the hiring of Hall of Fame coach Bobby Howard at a press conference Monday afternoon.

Howard is no stranger to Georgia. The former Columbus High coach is the state’s all-time winningest coach with a mark of 985-296. He is the only coach in state history with 900 or more coaching wins. Howard is a member of the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame and the BCA Hall of Fame.

His greatest success came at Columbus High where he led the Blue Devils to 12 state titles, eight runner-up finishes, 29 region titles and 819 victories in 31 seasons before stepping away in 2015.

He took the 2018 season off after announcing his resignation from Central High School in Phenix City, Ala. in 2017 after two seasons. Last summer, Howard accepted the head baseball position at Cartersville before resigning a few weeks later.

He will take over a Saint Anne-Pacelli program that has struggled recently. The Vikings won a Class 1A state title in 2008.

Howard has coached at Jordan, Kendrick, Columbus, Central (Ala.) and one year at Middle Georgia College in 1997. His high school and college coaching victories give him 1,025.
