Class 7A


Who's left: Grayson, Hillgrove, Parkview, North Gwinnett/Etowah

Here's the skinny: Grayson pitchers dominated and didn't allow a run in a sweep over Newnan, winning 1-0 and 7-0. ....Hillgrove survived in the quarters in a sweep over Mill Creek -- 7-4 and 8-3 -- in a series that was much-closer than the scores indicated. .... Parkview swept Walton in a series that featured schools that have won two of the last three Class 7A state titles. The Panthers won 5-3 and 7-4 to advance. .... North Gwinnett took the opener, 6-1, in its series against Etowah, but the Eagles rallied to win 3-0 in Game 2. Rain suspended Game 3 in the top of the third inning Thursday night with North Gwinnett leading 3-0. The Bulldogs finished the game on Friday, winning 7-0 to win the series.

Who's left: Effingham County, Heritage-Conyers, Pope, Harrison

Here's the skinny: Effingham County pulled the shocker in the Class 6A playoffs, sweeping past top-ranked Winder-Barrow. The Rebels won 3-2 and 10-3, snapping Winder-Barrow's 20-game winning streak. .... Heritage-Conyers proved their season hasn't been a fluke, upending Region 6 champion Allatoona to sweep the series. The Patriots won 7-6 and 3-2, the latter in nine innings to secure their first trip to the state semifinals since 2006. .... Pope earned its fourth straight trip to the semifinals, ousting Lee County in three games in a rematch of the Class 6A state championship series from 2017. Lee took Game 1, 8-7, then dropped Game 2, 18-8. Pope beat Lee County and the rain 9-1 on Thursday. .... Harrison used a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 to win 8-7. The game resumed on Friday after getting suspended Thursday night in the bottom of the fifth inning. The two teams split on Wednesday. Harrison took the first game 8-1, but Houston took the second game 4-1.

Who's left: Loganville, Locust Grove, Ola, Decatur

Here's the skinny: Loganville swept Thomas County Central and will be making its fourth straight trip to the semifinals. The two-time defending state champion Red Devils won 3-0 and 6-1. .... Locust Grove swept Riverwood 4-2 and 8-3 and will make its third trip to the state semifinals in the past four seasons. .... Ola survived a thrilling series to oust Buford in a series that went three games. Ola took the first game, 5-2, but Buford rallied to win Game 2, 3-1. In the final game, Buford took the lead late, but Ola opened the flood gates in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs to win 8-3. .... Decatur survived Harris County to win 7-6 in Game 1, then shut out the Tigers 3-0 in Game 2 to sweep the series and earned its first trip to the semifinals since 1948.

Who's left: North Oconee, Northside-Columbus, Blessed Trinity, Denmark

Here's the skinny: North Oconee continues to dominate in the postseason. The Titans got a pair of shutout victories (5-0 and 3-0) to sweep state power Columbus High. North Oconee is in the semifinals for the first time since 2008. .... Northside-Columbus pulled another stunner in the quarterfinal round. The Patriots swept perennial powerhouse Cartersville 3-1 and 4-2. .... In a mild surprise, Woodward Academy took top-ranked Blessed Trinity to three games before falling. Blessed Trinity took the opener 7-2, but Woodward took Game 2, 3-1. The Titans won Game 3, 2-1. Woodward had two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but the Titans escaped. Blessed Trinity is in the state semifinals for the seventh straight year. .... Denmark continues to be the surprise of the postseason. The Danes, in their first year, took down West Laurens to advance to the state semifinals in their first season of existence. Denmark won Game 1, 9-1, but West Laurens took the second game, 10-6. Demark won Game 3, 7-2, breaking the game open with five runs in its half of the sixth.

Who's left: North Hall, Pace Academy, Pike County, Hart County

Here's the skinny: North Hall made it look easy in a sweep of Appling County, winning 11-2 and 10-0. The Trojans are returning to the state semifinals for the second time in three seasons. .... Pace Academy cut down a red-hot Crisp County squad and put an end to the pesky Cougars. After Crisp, the No. 3 seed from Region 1, upset Jackson and Region 3 champion Benedictine in the first two rounds, the Cougars dropped Game 1, 5-4, against Pace. Then the Knights hammered Crisp, 14-0, in Game 2 to sweep the series. .... Pike County got the best of Fannin County in three games. Pike took the first game, 6-1, but Fannin rebounded to win the second game, 9-0. But the Pirates held on to post a 2-0 victory in the third game to win the series. .... Hart County also continues to turn heads. After beating defending Class 3A state champion Lovett in the first round, the Bulldogs defeated Region 6 champion Ringgold, then swept Region 1 champion Cook on Wednesday. Hart won the first game 6-3, then got a walk-off single with the bases loaded to win Game 2, 7-6.

Who's left: Jeff Davis, Bleckley County/Bremen, Rockmart, Callaway

Here's the skinny: Jeff Davis is back in the semifinals for the third straight year after sweeping a pair of games from Social Circle. The Jackets took the first game 6-4, then Game 1, 11-1. .... Bleckley County and Bremen split a pair of games on Wednesday. Bleckley took the first game, 13-2, but Bremen answered back with a 7-1 victory in Game 2. The decisive game was scheduled for Thursday, but rain postponed the finale. Bleckley County took Game 3 on Friday, 6-5, upsetting the top-ranked Blue Devils. .... Harlem and Rockmart split a pair of games on Wednesday. The Bulldogs took the first game, 8-5, but Rockmart won the second game 5-0 behind pitcher Ty Floyd. Game 3 was delayed for five hours Thursday night before Rockmart took a 7-1 victory to advance .... Callaway swept Bacon County to return to the state semifinals for the second straight year. The Cavaliers took the first game 9-8, then the nightcap, 6-4.

Who's left: Schley County, Irwin County, Gordon Lee, Bowdon

Here's the skinny: Schley County escaped a bases-loaded jam in Game 3 to hold off Commerce 6-4 and win the best-of-three series. The two teams split a pair of games on Wednesday. Schley took Game 1, 8-1, but Commerce won the nightcap, 11-0. .... Irwin County swept past Johnson County, winning 4-2 and 11-1, to make it to the semifinals. .... Defending Class 1A Public state champion Gordon Lee swept a pair of games from Seminole County, 11-4 and 15-0. .... Bowdon, the 14th seed, took the best-of-three series from Clinch County to advance. Bowdon took the first game 5-3, but Clinch answered with a 6-0 victory in Game 2 to force the decisive third game. Bowdon won 4-0.

Who's left: Tattnall Square, Hebron Christian, Savannah Christian, Wesleyan/Fellowship Christian

Here's the skinny: Strong Rock Christian gave defending Class 1A Private state champion Tattnall Square all it could handle in the quarterfinals. Tattnall won the first game 8-4, but Strong Rock took the second game 7-0. Strong Rock loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth of Game 3 but only scored one run as Tattnall prevailed 7-6 to advance. .... After Calvary Day took the first game 2-1, Hebron Christian answered with a 4-1 win in Game 2, followed by a 9-2 victory in the third and decisive game. .... In the battle of Savannah, Savannah Christian topped Savannah Country Day in three games to advance. Savannah Christian took the first game, 15-0, but SCD took the second game 13-9. On Thursday, Savannah Christian won 4-1 and took the series. .... Fellowship Christian and Wesleyan split a pair of games on Wednesday. Wesleyan took the first game 5-4, but Fellowship answered with a 6-4 win in Game 2. But rain won on Thursday in Game 3. The two teams finished the suspended game on Friday and Wesleyan won 20-6 to advance.
