New faces start season on top

The Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine released its 2021 preseason polls on Monday and some new faces will open the season on top.

The coronavirus halted the 2020 season at the midpoint. Defending champion Gordon Lee (1A Public), who went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019, will be the only defending champion to start the season at No. 1.

North Paulding, which has never won state baseball title in its short history, will begin on top in Class 7A, while Buford, which last won a state championship in 2015 while in Class 4A, will begin the season at No. 1 in Class 6A.

Blessed Trinity, who moves up a class, will start on top in Class 5A, while North Oconee opens at No. 1 in Class 4A.

Hart County starts at No. 1 in Class 3A, while private-school power Lovett, who has won three state titles in the past eight seasons, drops into Class 2A and will start the season No. 1

Meanwhile, Wesleyan begins on top in Class 1A Private, ahead of two-time defending champion Tattnall Square, who has won three of the last four state titles in the classification.
