Posted 6/14/16 The Team Georgia Junior baseball team took a pair of victories Monday at the Sunbelt Classic to improve to 5-2 in the tournament. They outslugged Team Texas 16-10 in an early game, then routed Oklahoma Gold 10-1 in the nightcap. A 12-run fourth inning helped Team Georgia overcome a 4-1 deficit to grab the lead for good against Texas. All nine players in the lineup had at least one hit or more. Lee Kay (Heard County) and Jay Saunders (Colquitt County) led the offense with three hits apiece. Kay, the team's leadoff hitter, finished 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Saunders finished 3 for 3 with a trio of RBIs. Garrett Marchman (Greenbrier) smashed a solo homer and finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Austin Thompson (South Effingham) finished 2 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs, while Christian Avant (Tift County) finished 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Taber Mongero (North Hall), Brennan Crooms (Metter) and Joah Curry (Locust Grove) finished with two hits each. Steven Minter (Hillgrove) finished with a double. Jamie Boatright (Hillgrove) was the winning pitcher, going four and two-thirds innings. Avant worked an inning and two-thirds, while Crooms worked two-thirds of an inning in relief. Then in the late game, Zack Brockman (Savannah Christian) allowed just a run on four hits as Team Georgia whipped Oklahoma Gold. Brockman struck out eight. Jake Arnold (Starrs Mill) led the offense, going 2 for 2 with two doubles to lead the 10-hit attack. Chase Patrick (Schley County), Reed Robinson (Bowdon) and Chaz Bertolani (Johns Creek) all had doubles in the game. Team Georgia will play back-to-back games on Tuesday, starting with Team Arizona at 11:30 a.m. followed by Oklahoma Blue at 2:30 p.m.
